Q. When is Invite Your Neighbor to Dinner Day?
A. Invite Your Neighbor to Dinner Day is an annual holiday that is held on the
second Saturday in January.
Q. Why is Dinner Day in January?
A. There are three main reasons why the Dinner Day coordinators decided to hold
this holiday in January:
-To get rid of those after-holiday blues.
-There aren't any holidays that will directly conflict with the second Saturday in
January.
-The new year seems like a wonderful time to renew old friendships and begin new
ones.
Q. Who should I invite to my Dinner Day?
A. Dinner Day is designed to build communities through interaction with the people
who live around us. Invite anyone who is part of your local community. If you already
know a few of your neighbors and are accustomed to getting together with them on
a regular basis, you should invite the neighbors who you do not normally see. It
may seem awkward, at first, to invite someone you barely know to dinner, but this
is how solid friendships begin. Below is a list of characteristics that describe
the perfect neighbor(s) to invite to Dinner Day:
-The Quick-Wave-As-I-Jump-Into-My-Car Neighbor
-The "Hi. How are you? Bye." Neighbor
-The Never-Home Neighbor
-That Neighbor Down the Street who Everyone Seems to Know But Me
-The Just-Moved-In Neighbor
-The Outcast Neighbor (Never Seems to Get Invited to Any Neighborhood Events)
-The Invisible Neighbor
Q. Will Dinner Day cost me anything?
A. If you are invited by your neighbors to attend Invite Your Neighbor to Dinner
Day at their house, you should ask your neighbors if there is anything they would
like you to bring. If they insist that you should not worry about bringing anything,
it is recommended that you make or buy a small dish or bring a small gift, such as
a bottle of wine or some flowers, to show your appreciation. If you are hosting Invite
Your Neighbor to Dinner Day, the cost will depend on the food you buy and the entertainment
you provide to your invited neighbors. Dinner Day coordinators are working to encourage
your local supermarkets and other food providers to sponsor Dinner Day each year
by providing coupons, deals, and other offers to aid with the costs of this new holiday.
Q. How will Invite Your Neighbor to Dinner Day benefit me?
A. The America we live in today was built on the foundations of freedom and the
dream of many religions, races, ethnicities, and cultures living together harmoniously.
In light of the tragedies that shook our country on September 11, 2001, Invite Your
Neighbor to Dinner Day was designed to recreate and rebuild these foundations of
good will towards those who are not as familiar to us. By extending your generosity
and love to your fellow neighbors, you are contributing to making the American dream
a reality. As a result, your community will become a more cohesive unit and, therefore,
more aware and appreciative of the people that live with you in this great nation.
